When you are on a sales call, there might be times you want to know more information about your customer. It could be something simple like you want to know more about their geographic location, such as the state they are in or their complete address. Another option is to do an internet search for their Customer name. The possibilities are endless. Popdock can help you do an internet search for any of those scenarios by creating a simple action. In this example of creating a simple action in Popdock, we are going to use Google to search for information about the state of the customer.
Steps:
Go to edit the connector and edit the list. Here I will use the Dynamics GP connector and the Customers list. Click ‘Actions’ on the sidebar, then click ‘Add action’.
Let’s name this ‘US State Google Search’. For the Type, select ‘Open a website’.
The website URL is going to be part hard coded and part from the record you select in the list.
- Type the first part of the Google search string, ‘https://www.google.com/search?q=’
- Click the ‘Add field’ dropdown and select ‘State’
- Last, add at the end, ‘+US+State’
The final step is to make sure the Security is setup the way you want it. Click ‘Security’ on the sidebar. Then add either the Teams or Users that you want to have access to this action.
Click ‘Go back to List’ to see your action has be created!
Back on the list, select the customer you want more information about their state. Then right-click and select ‘US State Google Search’ from the menu.
This will open the Google search in a new tab for the state! In this example I used Aaron Fitz Electrical, Popdock generated the URL ‘https://www.google.com/search?q=WA+US+State’ which used the search string of ‘WA US State’.
BONUS: Additional Scenario Google Search Syntax
- Address Google Search is ‘https://www.google.com/search?q={Address 1},+{City},+{State}+{Zip}’
- Customer name Google Search is ‘https://www.google.com/search?q={Customer name}’
