Have you ever been too lazy to do something that will end up saving you a huge amount of time in the long run? Be honest with yourself.

I have a commission calculation that I perform once every quarter. It takes me about an hour to pull the data and do the math every time I do this repetitive task. Every quarter I say to myself – I simply must automate this process. Yet – every quarter I am in a rush and do not have time to streamline the process and so revert to the tried and trusted manual method. In reality it will take me around 2 hours to put a solution together that would save me close to an hour every quarter for the next 10 years.

What I did find time for this week was to put together a really awesome demonstration of how YOU can save a huge amount of time by automating processes you currently do manually. Take 5 minutes to watch this latest video. You will be amazed at what you can make Dynamics GP do without writing a single line of code.

In this video I have built a way to store, calculate and create agent commission’s payments all at the click of a button. The crazy exciting thing is that I built the entire process myself – in about 90 minutes. For those that do not know me – I am not overly smart and definitely low on any technical spectrum (I get by with a funny accent). I am not able to write code – any sort of code.

I used three eOne tools alongside Dynamics GP to pull this together.

1. I added to new fields to Dynamics GP with Extender.
       1. Commission %: linked to a vendor.
       2. Agent: allowing you to assign a vendor to all Sales Lines.
2. I used SmartList Builder to build a SmartList that contained all the information I needed to see, and also performed the calculation of commission for me.
3. I built an integration from that SmartList, via SmartConnect, that used the data to create payables vouchers for the agents that were due a commission.

I am sure that 99% of GP consultants would not think of a solution as clever as this! If you ask your partner for data to be taken from a SmartList that you can control and filter, and then in turn hit a button that creates Vouchers in AP to your agents – they would schedule a meeting with their developer!! Totally unnecessary.
