Attempting to run SmartConnect maps using Excel as a datasource.  Maps have been working fine until recently when all my Excel maps starting giving the error that says, “Error [HY000] [Microsoft] [ODBC Excel Driver] Reserved error (-5016); there is no message for this error.”  Double clicking on the error results in additional information that looks like this.

How to resolve this error?

This error is caused by a recent set of Windows updates that breaks ODBC connectivity for Excel.  We are hoping that Microsoft releases a fix for this soon, however until that time the only solution is to uninstall specific Windows updates depending on the operating system.  Following is a list of the updates that need to be uninstalled.  After uninstalling the updates, you will need to reboot the machine.  After the reboot the maps will function correctly again.

If you need assistance uninstalling Windows updates, you can search for “How to uninstall Windows Updates” in your favorite search engine.  One article I found while searching is here: How to remove installed Windows Updates and block them afterwards.
