Attempting to run SmartConnect maps using Excel as a datasource. Maps have been working fine until recently when all my Excel maps starting giving the error that says, “Error [HY000] [Microsoft] [ODBC Excel Driver] Reserved error (-5016); there is no message for this error.” Double clicking on the error results in additional information that looks like this.
How to resolve this error?
This error is caused by a recent set of Windows updates that breaks ODBC connectivity for Excel. We are hoping that Microsoft releases a fix for this soon, however until that time the only solution is to uninstall specific Windows updates depending on the operating system. Following is a list of the updates that need to be uninstalled. After uninstalling the updates, you will need to reboot the machine. After the reboot the maps will function correctly again.
Windows 7 SP1 and Windows Server 2008 R2 SP
Windows 8.1 and Windows Server 2012 R2
Windows 10 and Windows Server 2016 (version 1607)
- KB4041691— 2017-10 Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 1607 and Windows Server 2016
