We are pleased to welcome Rod O’Connor to the eOne team. Rod is our Product Specialist and will be working from his home in Toronto, Ontario. No doubt you’ll interact with him in the coming months, but in the meantime – take a few moments to get to know him a little bit more.
Q: Do you have any fun projects that you’ve worked on before coming to eOne?
I’ve been fortunate enough to be involved in a number of fun projects over the years. I think the one I remember best, though, was a Dynamics GP customization and integration project I did in Nevis. The project meant I had to go to a small Caribbean island for 2 weeks at a time (and I went twice). I got to spend my days coding, and my evenings eating fresh fish on a beach – followed by watching monkeys play in the back yard of the house we were staying at. I’ve certainly done more complex projects over the years, but that was the most overall fun I’ve had on a project.
Q: What are you passionate about outside of work?
I guess I’d have to say that my family is my outside of work passion right now. We have 3 kids, one in university and 2 with busy hockey lives, and that tends to fill in the gaps between working hours. Aside from work and family, I really enjoy cooking and reading. I also like to try new things as often as I can.
Q: What’s on your bucket list?
So many things. I’d say that travel tops the list, though. There are many parts of the world I haven’t seen yet and I really would like to. Top of my list right now are pretty much any Asian country (with Japan at the top), Ireland, or Australia.
Q: Any fun(ny) eOne memories that first come to mind?
About 5 years ago, I was sitting in on a session presented by Martin. The session was on how to give a good demo. In the session, Martin listed 2 things that have stuck with me.
– When someone asks a question, put your hands in your pockets and answer it. The point of this was that users didn’t need to be confused by looking at confusing mouse clicks – they just needed to know that whatever they were asking about could work.
– Open 1 window on the screen, and never leave it despite what questions are asked.
To this day I hear Martin in the back of my mind every time I present a demo telling me to put my hands in my pocket and just answer the question.
Q: What’s playing in your headphones?
Most days it is going to be something Pub Music related (Pogues, Dropkick Murphy’s, Irish Rovers), but I actually have a fairly eclectic taste. When I am working I often listen to spa music.
