This feature may appear small on the surface but it really sets SmartConnect up for a lot of flexibility. Whereas we stored this information in the registry in the past and used the Config tool to update, now we can use the same (enhanced) Config tool to update the file. Another big benefit is the added security of encryption in the config file. Finally, we added this feature to allow our hosting partners to have multiple installations and connections to other systems along with the ability to connect to Test systems as well as Production.
